Funding Streams

Funding information

City of Dublin Youth Services administers several funding schemes on behalf of government departments including the Department of Education and Youth. These schemes support community-based providers to deliver a diverse range of youth work programmes and initiatives in response to the needs of young people. To be approved for funding, projects must undertake an application process that is approved by the relevant government department.

In line with good governance practices and its functions in relation to youth work, City of Dublin Youth Services has a responsibility to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public monies, in line with economy, efficiency and effectiveness. Accordingly, City of Dublin Youth Services works to ensure that funded organisations use their funding in a cost-efficient and financially prudent manner and solely for the purposes set out in their funding application. The funding streams currently administered by City of Dublin Youth Services are:

UBU Your Place Your Space

UBU Your Place Your Space is a national youth service funding scheme provided by the Department of Education and Youth (DEY). City of Dublin Youth Services work with DEY, as a strategic partner, to deliver UBU Your Place Your Space across the City of Dublin. UBU Your Place Your Space allows young people to access out-of-school supports in their local communities to enable them to achieve their full potential by strengthening their personal and social development outcomes. These supports must be provided in line with the values, goals, objectives and rules of the scheme and in response to the needs of young people as identified by the local Education and Training Board.

Projects in receipt of funding under the UBU Your Place Your Space scheme are subject to the conditions set out in the UBU Policy and Operating Rules that includes a Performance and Oversight Engagement Framework. Currently, 47 community-based targeted youth work projects are supported through the UBU Your Place Your Space scheme, employing 230 professional youth workers who engage with approximately 58,829 young people annually across Dublin City. Youth Information Centres

The Youth Information Centres (YIC) funding scheme funds over 20 information centres across the country. The purpose of these centres is to provide young people and those who work with them with free, confidential information on a wide range of subjects including careers, education, employment matters, rights and entitlements, leisure, sport and travel and European opportunities.

City of Dublin Youth Services currently administers YIC funding to Spunout, Ireland’s youth information. Spunout provides a range of accessible and free services that are available whenever they are needed. It provides information to more than 200,000 readers each month. Targeted Youth Employability Support Initiative

The aim of the Targeted Youth Employability Support Initiative (TYESI) is to engage and support harder to reach young people aged 15 to 24 years who are not currently in employment, education, or training. The focus of the initiative is on soft skills and developing these in relation to employability. The focused interventions are intended to provide community-based support to assist young people to attain a level of confidence and agency to engage in a wide range of currently available progression routes, programmes or services, for example, Youthreach, Community Training Centres, Community Employment Schemes, Traineeships, Apprenticeships, Pathways to Work and/or progress into employment.

Funded organisations are expected to work with ‘hard to reach’ cohorts of young people. A certain amount of flexibility is available to organisations in the design and content of their proposed programmes, actions and interventions under the Initiative. Good governance and evaluation must be part of the approach being provided. Additional information on TYESI can be found here.
